Søren Bache joined Maconomy directly from University and now works as a Software Architect and Software Developer developing Maconomy solutions. Søren primarily takes on the role as Software Architect and is an expert in Maconomy's Job Cost module.
Why did you decide to join Maconomy?
I joined Maconomy directly from Denmark's Technical University (DTU). Maconomy was (and still is) a very well-respected software company at DTU, so it was natural to consider Maconomy when I started applying for a job. Maconomy is known as a place with highly educated and competent people. Also the chance to work for a "real" software company with its own product was very motivating for me.
How has your role developed during your employment?
My career at Maconomy started in the application department where I still am, but my role has developed a lot during the years as I have gained more experience. A positive thing about Maconomy seen from a developer's perspective is that you – even as a junior developer – are part of the whole process, including design, programming, verification and testing of the software solution. As I have gained more experience, I have been given more responsibility. As a software architect I help ensure that our application is continuously developed in a technically sound way.
How would you describe Maconomy as an employer?
I think Maconomy employ highly competent people and I really enjoy working with and learning from my colleagues. Furthermore, it is great to be part of a company that successfully develops its own solutions and allows me to help build these solutions.
How does a typical work day look to you in your role?
Right now I am involved in a project team where we investigate the requirements for transforming our current application to a new platform. The requirements include technical requirements to our application, but also the requirements from a business perspective. So during a typical day on this project, I work with many different aspects. For instance, I have helped design how the invoicing process in the Maconomy solution should work in the future. The day would most often be mixed with e-mails, support and other tasks that occur on a daily basis.
Which skills and competencies are important to you to do your job professionally?
I have a background as a software engineer and I am not educated in building business software as such. The skills and competencies I use most frequently from my education include methodology and the ability to dig into a new area and understand it from a technical point of view.
Where do you see yourself in five years from now?
These questions are always difficult to answer, but I can see myself as part of Maconomy’s development department, continuously developing our solutions. We are in the beginning of a very exciting project of building the future Maconomy solution on the Eclipse RCP platform, and this will be an exciting and demanding process. I love to be part of it!
